we have 4 year olds!!

Our precious Angels turned 4 years old on Wednesday (September 21st). This is a bittersweet day for me as I remember the beautiful, sunny day at the hospital and Dr. Loughridge telling us @ 7pm that our babies are coming and we had to prepare for very small, premature babies. With Liam being sideways in utero, she told us our best bet was to have a c section rather than have to manually turn Liam around once Maeve was born. We prepped for the OR and delivered our Angels at 29 weeks (7 months).

Each year on their birthday, I am sad for what could have been and so very blessed for what we have, two strong, beautiful & healthy children. You wouldn't know they were preemies--how did we get so lucky.

Maeve Alexandria was born at 9:30pm at 2 lbs 14 oz and Liam followed two minutes later at 3lbs 3 oz. The world stopped for a few minutes as each baby was whisked to the other side of the operating room with 4 or 5 doctors by their side. I was on the table being taken care of and Karl was next to me. We were both speechless just praying silently that they would be OK. After a few minutes, this felt like an eternity, they were wheeled over to us in their isolettes for a quick peak before they went upstairs to the NICU where they remained for 9 and 11 weeks.

Fast forward four years....

To Maevie Girl,
You are such a sweet little girl. You are a "girly" girl and love your dolls and princesses. You love to sing and know every song on the radio, you only need to hear it once before you start singing. BUT, you don't want anyone to look at you while you "perform". You are pretty shy, until you get to know someone and then are as sweet as pie--but have your moments. You love to dance and play dress up. You learned to ride your bike this Summer in New Hampshire at The Dujardins and took off with no hesitation. You adore your brother and like his hugs and kisses. You are a Mommy's girl, but love Daddy's hugs and attention. You are smart/inquisitve ( but like to do so on your own terms, not when mommy likes to quiz you on your letters, haha) and love watching the world @ you, just like your mother. Your BFF is Charlotte Perry and your world would be so sad without her, we are lucky to have met her on the playground as your Mommy has become bf's with her Mommy too. You love your art and to draw and your favorite activity is dance. You get so excited when its time to go to and love being a ballerina. Your favorite colors are pink and purple. Two weeks ago you started preschool at St Peter Academy and your teacher is Mrs Leard. You love school and are enjoying your friends, Charlotte & Isabel, and hoping to make new ones too. On the first day of school Mrs Leard told Daddy and me that you and Liam were "rockstars" which made you so proud of yourself. I am looking forward to seeing you shine this year and hope you become more confident in yourself, less whiny and take leaps and bounds in your interests. I love you more than you will every know.

To Leems,
You are hilarious. You are such a ham and crack me up every single day. Your energy is pretty high and you are hyper, but also the sweetest little boy who showers me with hugs and kisses everyday. A few days before your bday, I asked you wanted to eat for your birthday dinner and you told me " a sausage sandwich, a salad with croutons & a beer". You knew exactly what you were saying and we sat in your bed and laughed so hard together. You are a comedian, and your silliness comes from both of your Grandfathers as well as your crazy parents. You are so smart and don't skip a beat. You remember everything and are inquisitive on many topics. You love to play with someone rather than alone. You love to jump, kick, climb etc. You are a dare-devil on your bike and love the playground. You dabble in your leggos and blocks and are into your trucks/car. You love music an picking up your guitar and singing. You just started Irish Step and told me you have to practice kicking up to your bum and you enjoy the "lead around". You love to paint, playdough and love to help cook/bake and make a mess. Your favorite colors are blue and orange and you look so good in green, like your Daddy, must be the Irish in you. You like to call green the "Irish color". You love to kiss your sister good morning and have to hug and kiss her many times a day. Your bond is unbelievable to watch and you really look out for each other. You do get jealous of her friendship with Charlotte, but you and Charlotte play nicely together too--as she is both of your friends. You enjoy playing with girls and can relate to them. I am excited for your 4th year and to see how much you grow and how this year unfolds for you. I want you to find a close friend in preschool aka "buddy" and see how you interact and play. Your bond with your Father is so magical, he truly is your hero and I hope you always look up to him as you are so lucky to have him as your Dad.

Thank you for making our lives more fulfilled and for driving us crazy every single day!

I love you (both) a bushel and a peck, a bushel and peck and hug around the neck.

Love,
Mom

First Day of Ballet/Tap & Irish Step

Maeve is taking her second year of Ballet which includes Tap this year at In Sync. Her friends Charlotte & Emily are in the class and she loved her first day, but misses former teacher Miss Amy.

Liam supports his sister and their best friend, Charlotte.

Liam decided to take Irish Step and had his first day too. There are two boys in the class and he learned how to kick up to his bum and likes to fall over when he does it--such a joker.

First day of preschool-St Peter Academy

Summer is officially over. Maeve & Liam started "big kids" school today at St Peter Academy. They were giddy all morning and basically skipped to school they were so happy. Drop off was easy and Mrs Leard gave us the thumbs up. Karl and I hit McKennas for a quiet breakfast and it was so nice to be together randomly on a sunny, Tuesday afternoon. Hoping they are all smiles at pick up, its a long day 8-230. I was sad to see them go off to school, but so happy for them as they were so excited and always have each other which is so comforting to us. Plus, BF Charlotte will be joining them 2x/week which makes both Maeve & Liam happy.

Davis Farmland, Summer 2011

This was one of our favorite Summer days. It was a perfect, sunny day with no humidity and we spent it on a farm/water area with good friends. The only drawback was the 1.15 minute drive from Dorchester.

Davis Farmland is a wonderful hands-on Farm where children ( adults too) can learn about animals and interact with them. Maeve & Liam were able to brush the baby cows, milk a goat, and touch a pet rat ( I wanted to die I was so grossed out).

Davis has a great water/splash area too where kids ran off their energy. We capped it off with an ice cream and everyone was happy.

Ann, Neive & Liam Connolly met us and it was a day of smiles for all.

Carousel--Nantasket

Summer is coming to an end. It was filled with plenty of beach visits, pool time, park visits, bike rides, ice cream and family & friends. As the last few weeks wind down activities are ending and its time for Mommy to be the prime entertainer.

I took kids to Nantasket to ride the Paragon Carousel--bought a 10 ride ticket and they LOVED it. We ended with a visit to the ice cream stand and Maeve & Liam had a smile from ear to ear. I think I got a high five for being a "cool" Mom that day.

Love!
